That actually feels like quite an eerie image to me, not sure why. We all see something different in a picture!

      Hi Jem,

Thanks very much for your comment. I agree with you – I too can sense a little eerie/unsettling feeling in the image/subject matter. I believe it’s the chains because of its stark connotation, but the padlock is unlocked so I think it emits a message of release/freedom/happiness too. Perhaps, bittersweet or happy-sad or ambivalence also?

Some things are puzzling especially when you don’t see anyone around to know the purpose, like this chain and lock. Good catch!

      Hi Julie,

Thanks very much for your comment. Very true – as Jem ^ said also, images and photos paints a thousands words, and can be interpreted in a myriad of ways by different viewers. And it’s interesting what message images can portray when it’s environment is not revealed, for example in mass media. In this photo though, it was taken at the local jetty where boats are moored. I suspect the lock and chain had simply been used as some kind of nautical security tool and left on the branch. I thought it would make a puzzling and intriguing photo. Wasn’t much around I guess. :)
